Though you may find a ranch, zoo, or an occasional home housing one of these birds as a pet every now and again, the peacock is definitely not a native to California. However, if you were to drive along Bouquet Canyon from Santa Clarita to the Antelope Valley or vice versa, you may find this lone survivor along the banks of the river or along the side of the road. I have run across this bird twice now in the span of a few months and never close to any of the desolate homes along the canyon road but, if you have lost your peacock somewhere in California or a neighboring state, you might try looking nearby Bouquet Canyon Falls as this lone bird seems to have taken refuge in this area and has adapted himself quite nicely there.

As I often see birds such as sparrows, black birds, crows, pigeons, finches, and doves hang out on telephone wires.., this may be the very first time in my life that I had seen a family of swallows hanging about on one. My guess is that these babies had become far too large for mom and dad to fit in their nest anymore and now they must start learning about living on their own. Although mom or dad are still fetching supper for them at this point.

Another squirrel in the wild, looking like it should be in the star wars cantina band or an orchestra more than it does just enjoying a snack.
