Some of the desert lands of California such as death valley, and here in Elizabeth lake, are currently experiencing a large quantity of wildflower blooms adding a vibrant burst of color to otherwise dry and desolate lands. However, places I was expecting to see wildflowers and poppies flourish, such as Lancaster Ca. and it’s poppy reserve, were a dry and sad let down when visited.

Another interesting find on my lone hike at Elizabeth Lake yesterday was this burnt skull fragment. At first I thought it was a husk from some plant matter or cactus stalk but after a closer inspection, I had discovered it to be charred skeletal remains of some animal. To what kind of animal is still a question that remains to be answered as I am not one adept in the study of forensics.
