During our bicycle run around the perimeter of Mackinac island in 2011, I couldn’t help but be drawn to this rather large abandoned lodge. After some new research, I have come to find that this place known as Silver Birches lodge had recently been purchased and has received some big renovations. The original lodge was built in the early 1900’s and had housed several families and guest up until around 1960 when it was abandoned. I have found out that only just this year it had been purchased and got the TLC that it has been waiting for after 50 years. It is quite a wonder to me how such a large and amazing place had ever been left unattended for that long on the island to begin with?
